Cycas Revoluta - Sago Palm
£19.99
£10.00
Save: 50% off
Cycas Revoluta - Sago Palm Cycas Revoluta is a member of the Cycad family – not a “true” palm. The Cycads have existed for nearly 280 million years, since the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods and are often called “living fossils”. They were believed to be the primary food of herbivorous dinosaurs hence another nick name “food of the dinosaurs”. Cycas Revoluta is among the easiest of plants to care for. When mature it is hardy to perhaps -3°C or lower and is extremely adaptable. Originating from the Japanese Ryukyu Islands it can grow to a maximum height of 10 ft with a frond spread of up to 6ft. Growth rate is fairly slow although when it puts on growth it can be faster than many people think. Leaves come in bursts up to 3 times a year with bright green foliage that you have to be careful not to crush against another plant or a wall, as once grown the leaf will remain bent Plant in full sun or light shade in well drained soil when mature. Young specimens make excellent container plants and would make a spectacular addition to any patio or conservatory. If you have room, then plant it into the garden for a truly dramatic effect. Light: Outdoors Full sun to dappled shade. Indoors: Bright light for at least some hours per day. Soil: Any well drained. Water: When almost dry. Feed: Light feed in spring and late summer. (Yellow leaves indicate too much water and/or too much fertilizer) Repotting: In spring (not too early, they like to be pot bound). Cycas revoluta is a very effective and beautiful patio or conservatory plant, which should be quite happy to spend the summer in the garden. Supplied June 2010 onwards 12 cm pot min 8 leaves on each plant
